Field Notes 3

Big Little Shifts

Many people adopt words, ideas, or internal scripts without ever wondering whether they nourish them.

When you speak and when you listen try slowing down just enough to ask:

“Wait. What are we saying here?”

“Is this actually a useful lens?”

“Am I seriously about to unconsciously adopt this perspective right now?”

That can be a strength, even if it doesn’t always feel like one.

Then ask:

“What is true?”

Try noticing yourself noticing.

Then notice yourself noticing yourself noticing.

Sometimes you’ll find yourself saying:

“Frick yeah. I’m adopting this lens.”

Other times you’ll notice where the conversation is heading and simply respond:

“No thanks.”

Not every idea deserves a permanent place in your mind.

Not every story deserves authority.

I just find that interesting to practice.

Hopefully it helps with being slightly less bothered later.

Have a nice day.
